Unique Settings of New York – Rings 10% off in March

Well it’s time to announce this month’s promotion at Elizabeta Jewelry!

We’d like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th and we’ve decided to offer 10% off any purchase of Unique Settings Rings of New York. The promotion is valid this whole month so take your time to browse and think but take advantage before the month ends. Simply enter the coupon code “US10″ and you’ll recieve 10% off your order at checkout.

Unique Settings of New York was founded in 1999 after the owners became more and more upset with not being able to easily find and order custom jewelry and rings. What that means for you is any Unique Settings ring that you see will be made with care to order and not off the shelf or pre-made.  You can customize each piece to your exact liking and will have a huge range of choices.

So from Elizabeta Jewelry to you we say Happy St. Patty’s Day!

All About Cobalt Rings

Cobalt rings are made from an alloy blend of cobalt and other substances. Cobalt offers a bright white color comparable to platinum. This metal is bio-inert, making it compatible to the body. Cobalt is commonly used in dentistry and artificial joints because of its lighter weight and resistance to corrosion.

Cobalt is harder than platinum with a scratch resistant surface. It will not break, shatter or chip providing extreme durability and wear. The luster and finish will not fade or tarnish over time. Cobalt can be polished as you would a platinum ring.

Compared to some of the other “industrial” metals such as titanium and tungsten, cobalt chrome offers so much – the appearance of platinum and the strength and durability of the industrial metals. Not to mention they are also hypoallergenic, resizable and bio-compatible.

Blood diamonds

Have you seen the movie Blood Diamond? If you have I wouldn’t doubt that you have sworn off diamonds… But there are options other than purchasing pricey shiny stones that help fund the violence in other countries. Here are just a few:

1) Consider a colored gemstone – rubies and sapphires are great stones for everyday wear as they are tough and durable.

2) Perhaps a diamond substitute such as moissanite (oh how it sparkles!), man mad diamond, or a diamond hybrid. They will save you a lot of money and look every bit as gorgeous as a real diamond.

3) Purchase a Canadian diamond – Polar Bear diamonds are mined in Canada and certainly aren’t affiliated with funding guerilla conflicts.

4) Purchase a standard diamond from a reputable dealer that abides by the Kimberley Process (The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) imposes extensive requirements on its members to enable them to certify shipments of rough diamonds as ‘conflict-free’.)

Elizabeta Jewelry offers all of these options, and if you choose option #4, we will donate a portion of the sale to Conflict Neutral (http://www.conflictneutral.com/ – We have three long term aims. 1- To help those affected either directly or indirectly by diamond trading. This will be achieved by support of local projects to provide fresh water, health care etc.. 2- To work towards more strict regulation of diamond sales to ensure that less and less blood diamonds find their way in to circulation. 3 -To support stable non-corrupt governments to help them to bring stability and adequate policing and facilities such that countries are able to restrict illegal trade themselves and provide for their own people.

Tanzanite – a.k.a. Blue Velvet

Tanzanite was discovered over 40 years ago, but it is still relatively unrecognized by consumers. This luscious gem comes from Tanzania, and it is considered quite rare. In an effort to promote awareness, tonight the Tanzanite Foundation will be hosting its first ever tanzanite jewelry suite for the stars and their stylists before the Academy Awards.
Tanzanite is prized primarily because of its sensual color. It comes is a range of deep violet and blue to lighter shades. And it tends to change slightly in color under different lighting. It is a trichroic stone, meaning that because of the different axes in the stone, it will reflect light differently.
Tanzanite is considered the 4th most desirable colored gem behind emerald, sapphire, and ruby but its reputation is coming on strong. It is a favorite with gemologists because it is estimated that the sole source of tanzanite will be depleted in 20 years.
Tanzanite has shared the December birthstone spot with Topaz since 2002, but don’t be bashful if your birthday doesn’t fall in December. The violet blue velvety texture and deep color saturation would appeal to anyone looking for a stunning stone to adorn themselves or a loved one with.
Some of the lore surrounding tanzanite includes its ability to bring together all aspects of communication and psychic power. Tanzanite is a stone of magic that facilitates spiritual awareness and stimulates insight. It is also said to relieve depression. Tanzanite is known to both dispel and transmute negativity.
Tanzanite has a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7.0. It is tough enough for most jewelry, but care should be taken with it. It is not recommended that it be cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner. Warm soapy water is best.
Visit www.elizabetajewelry.com to see some of the designs we can set tanzanite into or contact us at service@elizabetajewelry.com for a custom design.

Splendid Silver

Silver is one of the most popular precious metals used in jewelry. Because of its white luster and affordability, silver is a very common adornment around the world. Silver is also ideal for heat and electrical conductivity. The Latin name is argentum, which means white and shining. Mexico has been the world’s leading silver producing country, but the United States, Canada, and Peru each provide significant amounts. Large quantities of silver are used in jewelry (usually sterling silver – 92.5% pure or fine silver – 99%pure), silverware, and coins, but even larger amounts are used in products of the photographic and electronics industries. Silver is thought of as a feminine element and can help the wearer to balance their emotions and remain calm. While gold’s power radiates outward, silver’s raditate inward changing the wearer from within. Alchemists associated silver with the moon and the feminine and placed it right next to gold in the heirarchy of metals. It was regarded as passive, feminine and the polar opposite to gold, the active, male and solar metal. Historically, silver has been used to prevent food and wine from spoiling. It was often used to prevent disease. Silver in it’s colloidal form, is a powerful antibacterial and germicide.
