Cleaning Your Diamond Rings
Diamond is one of the hardest natural substances.
That being said, you still have to take some care in cleaning your rock. There are many different ways you can clean your diamond.
Probably the simplest, safest way would be to use warm water, dish soap, and a toothbrush.
You can also use ammonia based jewelry cleaning solutions available at some jewelry stores as long as your diamond is not fracture filled.
If it is, ammonia can get into the crack and cause it to cloud or it could dissolve the coating on the clarity enhanced diamond. Another very effective way is to have it steam cleaned by a jeweler.
A word of caution though… if you have a diamond that is fracture filled or clarity enhanced, there is a possibility that the stone could crack along a hidden fissure.
Ultrasonic cleaning is another effective option, but repeatedly using this method can cause stones to become loose in their setting. So make sure you check your stones after using this method.
All these methods are reasonable safe for diamonds, but they may not be for other gemstones. Check with your jeweler to see what they would recommend for your gemstone jewelry.
