Eco-Friendly Rings and Jewelry

What is an eco-friendly ring?
An eco-friendly ring is a ring that has been produced leaving little to no impact on the
environment. Many eco-friendly rings are produced using recycled metal as mining can be very
devastating to the environment.
What are manmade diamond alternatives and lab grown gemstones?
Manmade diamond alternatives and lab grown gemstones tend to be beneficial to the land.
Created gemstones make a terrific alternative to mined stones. Created gemstones are less
expensive than natural stones, and they can be as beautiful as the natural gems.
These gemstones feature two types: lab-created stones, like created rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, which have the same physical properties as the natural stone; and simulants, like cubic zirconias, which resemble natural gemstones but don't have the same properties.
Because of these factors, some people prefer to wear created gemstones rather than the rare gems found through extensive mining.
That said, many people still love and treasure the beauty and uniqueness of true diamonds and rare gems.
What are Socially responsible practices?
Conflict free diamonds (those obtained in accordance with the Kimberley Process) are
diamonds that are not involved in supporting any violent conflicts abroad.
Reputable manufacturers/ producers should be certified conflict free. Canadian mined diamonds are a safe purchase if you are looking for conflict free stones.
Is “Fair-Trade” the same thing?
You’ll often hear the term “Fair-trade”, which refers to trade that satisfies certain criteria on the
supply chain of the goods involved, usually including fair payment for producers; often with other
social and environmental considerations.
Many man made diamond alternatives and lab grown gemstones also tend to be produced in countries where fair trade practices are the standard.
What is recycled metals used in rings and other jewelry made from?
Some designers create their jewelry using recycled metals. These metals are cast into the
desired jewelry by taking existing precious metals from electronics, industrial-use metals, and
existing jewelry.
This process is better for the environment as it avoids the ecological damage caused by having to mine for new metals.
